Should I Include My Personal Essay If It Is Optional?

  • 0

When faced with the decision of whether to include a personal essay in my application, especially when its submission is optional, I find myself mulling over several contemplations. Should I seize the opportunity to share my individual narrative, or does its optional nature signify a lack of necessity? Could this essay serve as a pivotal glimpse into my character, aspirations, and unique journey, enhancing my candidacy? Yet, what if my experiences do not align with the values or interests of the institution in question? Might my attempt at showcasing my personality inadvertently dilute the more substantive aspects of my application? Further, in the grand tapestry of my submission, how will this personal essay weave into the overall narrative created by my academic achievements, recommendations, and extracurricular activities? Am I risking the coherence of my application by adding an optional component? Ultimately, is it safer to adhere strictly to the requirements, or should I embrace the chance to present a fuller version of myself?
